The Woodford County Jail is a minimum security facility located in Versailles, Kentucky. The county jail houses both male and female offenders who have been arrested and charged with either misdemeanor or felony offenses. All inmates being held at the county jail are either serving their sentences, awaiting trial, cannot afford bond, or do not have a bond set. The top priority of the County Jail is the protection, safety and security of the community, citizens of Woodford County, staff and inmates. The jail provides work programs for all inmates. These programs include cleaning up trash from roadways in the county, and tending to the jail’s garden. The County Jail also offers many inmate programs including: AA, NA, church services, GED classes and testing, and MRT classes. Local volunteers and agencies in the community assist the jailer and corrections officers in instituting programs to assist in the rehabilitation of inmates. How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates are allowed to receive mail from their friends and family while incarcerated. All incoming mail must be addressed with the Inmate name and Inmate ID and have a return address on the envelope. All incoming mail must be in the form of a letter. All mail is opened and inspected for contraband. If contraband is found, the mail will be destroyed. Once the mail is inspected, it is scanned and distributed to inmates electronically. Mail is sent to a 3rd party facility.

Visitation Hours

Inmates held in the County Jail are allowed to visit with friends and family while incarcerated. All visits must be scheduled by calling the jail. Inmates receive forty minutes a week, with the option of having two twenty minute visits or one forty minute visit. The inmate must complete an authorized visitor list, with up to 5 people on the list, before a visit can be scheduled. All visitors must have a government issued ID and are subject to search at any time.

The Woodford County Jail offers a Jail Roster for the public to view all current inmates. The roster includes the mugshot of the inmate, the physical description of the inmate, the charges the inmate was arrested for, and their arrest date.

The Woodford County Sheriff’s Office is the predominant law enforcement agency located in the county. The office provides 24 hour, 365 days a year service to the public. The Sheriff’s Office is a full service agency consisting of the Sheriff, 8 full time deputies, 3 full time and 2 part time Court Security Officers, and two full time administrative employees.The duties of the office include tax collection, acting as bailiffs for the court system, patrolling the county and serving in the civil and criminal process. The office has two deputies that teach the DARE program in Woodford County Schools. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office is in partnership with the Versailles Police department Cops For Kids program to provide presents at Christmas time to deserving children. The current Sheriff is John Wilhoit.

Woodford County is located in the central region of the state of Kentucky. The county was formed in 1788 using land from Fayette County, Virginia. It was named for William Woodford, an American Revolutionary War general from Virginia who died while a prisoner of war in 1780. The county covers a total of 192 square miles.
