The jail holds inmates who have been arrested for misdemeanor or felony charges. The county jail is co-ed, with female and male inmates separated in different pods. The inmates held at the county jail are awaiting trial, have been convicted and serving their sentence, or cannot bond out. The county jail complies with the Kentucky Jail Standards to ensure full compliance. Although Union County does not have a jail, they do have their own jailer.
Friends and family can add money to an inmate’s commissary account online. The county jail uses a third party provider website called CareACell. An account must be made. The website accepts credit and debit cards. The other way to add money to an inmate’s account is by dropping off money at the jail. Funds for inmates can be dropped off between the hours of 7 am and 3 pm, Monday through Friday. No money will be taken at any other time. After hours, money can be added to inmate accounts through the kiosks in the lobby of the detention center.
